President's Update March 30th 2012

Logo

In writing about our new logo last week I forgot to mention that Gavin had put considerable thought into the elements of the logo.  If you had not realised, the stars in the design represent the thirteen member clubs of the EDJBA.  Jo Chu has received many compliments on the design for which we are appreciative.

As time goes by we will be using the design as the basis for the rebranding of the association.  As they say in the classics, watch this space.

Changes in the way we do Business

At present a subcommittee of the Executive has been addressing the considerable workload of, in particular, the Fixtures Officers.  It has become obvious that one of the key tasks that has taken up the majority of the officer’s time has been the entry of data into the Sporting Pulse system to allow the checking of player’s eligibility for finals. This is a task that was done manually by the Grade Secretaries in the past but in the change to the new system has taken more time than anticipated.

Many late nights, some to three in the morning, by Sue, Alison and Jo has meant that something had to give.

The subcommittee has now addressed these and other problems and will report back to the Executive at its next meeting in April.  I will report on the changes that will occur once the Executive has met to consider the recommendations of the subcommittee.

The association is becoming much more professional in its operation and as time passes and the challenges emerge it is pleasing to report that the Executive is aware and has an open mind on the changes necessary to meet these challenges.

Presidency

At the last Executive meeting I advised the committee that I would not be seeking re-election at the AGM scheduled for August.  This is due to the fact that my wife Rosemary and I are making a sea change to Queenscliff and possibly ultimately Point Lonsdale. This would mean that I will be living well out of the area and therefore unable to effectively undertake my duties to the level I would desire. I am pleased to say that all the changes I personally felt necessary in the operation of the association have largely come to fruition save the adoption of a new constitution which I believe will be in place within the next two months.

In announcing this I am giving clubs the opportunity to think about who they would like to replace me and doing the necessary planning to allow this to occur.

It would be remiss of me if I did not state the considerable support of the committee for myself which has allowed us as a group to make the great progress we have made.

It has been an exciting time witnessing the growth of the association in such a short time, growth which is obviously continuing when I read and hear of the explosion in the registrations at all clubs.

Grand Finals

Report to follow next week.

Best wishes for the coming winter season.

Happy hoops.

Ron Carlton.

President.
