9 March: Centrals to have 3 coaches coaching at this years U18 National Championships!
In another milestone for the Lions this year we will have 3 coaches coaching at this year’s U18 National Championships in Perth this year; Steve Boyton, James Murphy and Andrew Jantke will be Assistant Coaches with U18 SA Metro Women, U18 SA Country and U18 SA Metro Men respectively.
For the Lions this year Steve has joined our ABL Women's squad as Assistant Coach to last years ABL Women's Coach of the year Ben Todd. He comes to us after lengthy stints at Forestville and North Adelaide and has proven experience and success coaching teams to to many finals at the U16 and U18 level. James Murphy is our U16 Div 1 boys coach and has previously coached at Eastern and Norwood including coaching multiple teams to Melbourne Classics Finals. Andrew Jantke is our current Director of Coaching for the boys a role he has been in since Winter season 2008/09.
It’s no secret that across the board our club has some of the most experienced, hardworking and knowledgeable coaches in the state and to have 3 coaches from our club, more than any other, directly involved in National Championship teams, the preparations, the planning and the actual championships is a great asset for our athletes. This gives our coaches great insights into contemporary basketball plays and structures and insights into the development profile and skills packages of the best athletes in the nation.
