26 November: Carlin makes 1st cut

After a very solid performance at the U17 World Championships in Hamburg in July, Central Districts Lions' U23 Div 1 player, Daniel Carlin has recently been invited to attend a selection camp for the U19 World Championships.

Just like Junior district basketball the age groupings for world junior championships mean that you can be a 1st yr or 2nd yr player.  For U17s Carlin was a 2nd year and for U19s he's a 1st yr and will be pitted against guys a yr older vying for selection.  If performances at U17 Worlds and the rapid development he has shown in the past 5 yrs, and continues to show, are anything to go by Carlin is a strong possibility to make the U19s Worlds.  We wish him good luck!

Emus squad announced ahead of January camp

25.11.10

Basketball Australia has announced the Under 19 Men’s squad that will gather for the first official Emu’s basketball camp at the AIS from 25-30 January, ahead of the 2011 FIBA Men’s Under 19 World Championships in Latvia.

Following the team’s success this year, which saw them take out the prestigious 2010 Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Germany, followed by a competitive tour of China, ending with an emphatic victory over New Zealand at the FIBA Oceania Qualification Series last month, there is a great deal of excitement surrounding the squad.

Headlining the talented group is Hugh Greenwood, who suited up for the Boomers during the side’s World Challenge against Argentina in June.

With a group stacked with talent, selecting the final squad is sure to pose headaches for head coach Damien Cotter and the section group.

The Emus will hold three camps in 2011 in the build-up to the World Championships, before heading off to Europe for practice matches prior to the tournament.

During the January camp, the squad will compete in the Canberra Classic on 29 and 30 January, 2011.
