21 June: Lions teams in Melbourne

The Nunawading tournament is a large one, with almost 4,000 players participating.   It provides an excellent option for our teams that don’t make the Melbourne Classics, which are open to participation by invitation only.

Over the June long weekend the following Lion’s teams ventured over to Melbourne for the Nunawading tournament.

The U14 Div 1 Boys, U14 Div 1 Girls, U16 Div 1 Girls and U14 Div 4 Boys all participated in the tournament.   All Coaches involved spoke very highly of their team’s performance for the weekend, with each team having different challenges along the way.

The level of competition tends to be higher in Melbourne due to the population size and size of the clubs and so our teams that nominate for A Grade tend to face better competition than they would in Adelaide.  Our U14 Div 4 boys who nominated for a lower division still played at a level similar to Div 2 in Adelaide in many cases.

The main consistency with the feedback from the coaches involved was the strengthening of team relationships off the floor.  With all team members getting to know each other that little better we believe these tournaments provide the platform for future team improvement.  The opportunity to play 6 games in the space of 2 days against teams not encountered in regular competition also assists with the individuals and teams development.
