6 April: Update on U20 Men’s Team

Our U20 Mens Coach Tony Moore recently sent through an update on the early progress his charges are making this season, here is what he had to say...

Our U20 Men’s Div 2 team, who are currently undefeated and have upset some of the top teams at our level, In order to understand the inspiring part of this success you must first understand where these young men have come from.

I have had the luxury of being involved with these players for the past 2 ½ years to 3 years and have witnessed the growth and commitment these players have displayed over the years.  All these players were late in their introduction to basketball and have all played a support role within previous teams.  Now these players are starting and taking on leadership roles within the team structure, with some players becoming defensive specialists, rebounders, 3-point shooters, and key isolation players.  As previously highlighted, this is due to their total commitment; dedication, hard work, and self-belief that they could one day become the player that they want.

This group of young men have gone from losing to teams by 80 plus points to beating the same teams by double digits and losing by less than 10 points.  Where teams like Sturt, Torrens Valley, Norwood, North beating us by such considerable margins to now where we have defeated the Torrens Valley Cougars (coached by NBL legend Al Green) by 7 points.  Even being told by the coach of Norwood (after we defeated them) of how many these young men have developed their game.

In our team, we believe that we do not have any superstars and there is no room for egos, however we believe that through our combined efforts we can become a superstar team.

I would like to think that viewing where these guys have come from and the growth they have displayed is not only inspiring but also a clear example of what teamwork and commitment can achieve.  I realise that it is early in the season for us but this is new ground for these young men and I would like to acknowledge their representation of the club in such an outstanding manner.

Regards,

Coach Moore
