The day before our first game at the 2017 Helloworld U18 Nationals and its time to meet our captains! Some great thoughts from our women's co-captain's Tia Bails and Lauren Ross. 

 

Tia Bails - U18 Women's Co-Captian

Age: 16 years old

Which Basketball Player do you idolise? Erin Phillips

When did your basketball career start? 2007

Why did you start playing basketball? Sport was a major part of my families life so they got me into a team and a lot of my friends played basketball.

Who has been the biggest influence on your basketball? My parents

What do you think will be your biggest challenge at the 2017 U18 National Championships? 
The biggest challenge for us as a team will be to make sure we stick together and play our style of game, when facing well-disciplined and tough opposition.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2017 U18 National Championships? 
I am looking forward to playing against good quality teams and playing the sport I love with such a great group of people along side of me for my last nationals tournament as an SA Country player.

 

Lauren Ross - U18 Women's Co-Captain

Age:  16

Association: Mount Gambier

Which Basketball Player do you idolise? Erin Phillips and Leilani Mitchell

When did your basketball career start? 6 years old.

Why did you start playing basketball? Watching my brother and cousins play encouraged me to give it a go. Basketball offered skill development and coaching clinics which lead into playing competitively. 

Who has been the biggest influence on your basketball? Many coaches have guided me over the years, especially Trevor Semmens, Dan Stratford and Bryan Green.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge at the 2017 U18 National Championships? Being a consistent player throughout the whole week, while keeping my teammates positive and helping them to play to our team's potential.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2017 U18 National Championships? I am looking forward to seeing how our team goes in the championships after 5 months of preparation. Playing well will be the best reward for all of our hard work.
