Ten SA Country Juniors are currently participating in the Great Murray River Basketball Jamboree held in the New South Wales border town of Albury this past week. They join junior players from all over Australia and New Zealand in this four day event that includes more than just direct head to head competition. The Jamboree includes social activities, coaching clinics, player workshops and games. The focus is on player development, participation and the enjoyment of the game. To gain some relief from the sweltering temperature, the players will venture to the Wodonga Swim centre this afternoon. This will be followed by a BBQ dinner and some social activities this evening. All 250 players and coaches are housed together at the Lake Hume resort, it is in this setting that the players are given an experience similar to Basketball camps in the USA and Europe.

Dan Stratford and Andrew Hunter, joined the SA Country touring party with Dan coaching the Dingoes girls team, and Andrew as team manager of the Wallabies boys team. SA Country will look to expand its representation at this event in 2013, with the Jamboree Directors requesting more spots to be awarded to SA Country Basketball due to the exceptional standard of the South Aussie players at this year’s event.
