RULES AND REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO THE SPORT OF TENPIN BOWLING
The following Rules and Regulations relating to the Tenpin Bowling Tournament shall be read in conjunction with the principal rules.

SECTION 1:
DEFINITION
For definition purposes each state/province/region shall hereafter be referred to as Association.
Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited shall hereafter be referred to as TBA.
The world organising body shall hereafter be referred to as WTBA and the Asian Bowling Federation will be referred to as ABF.
OBJECTIVE
This Tournament is organised by TBA for local, national and international developing bowlers to foster and promote goodwill, comradeship, friendship and sportsmanship whilst competing against a wider range of skilled competitors.
SANCTIONING/ACCREDITATION
The tournament is sanctioned by WTBA/ABF and accredited by TBA.
ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to all members; male and female who have membership with a WTBA affiliated association and to all registered bowlers with TBA.
Bowlers must be over 14 years of age as at January 1st 2009
MATTERS NOT PROVIDED FOR
The WTBA General Playing Rules and Regulations shall govern any matters not provided for or covered in these rules and regulations.
ENTRIES
Preliminary entry forms by number from each participating Association, forwarded through the Arafura Games Management Office must be completed on the stipulated entry forms.
Entries may be sent by fax or email.
Final entry forms by name and two passport photographs for each player and official must be received by the Arafura Games Management Office or NT Tenpin Bowling Association not later than 30 April 2009. The official dates of the tenpin bowling competition will be 8th to the 15th of May with the medal ceremonies being held on Friday 15th May 2009.
TEAMS AND TEAM MEMBERS
Teams must comprise of a minimum of 3 male and 3 female players but a maximum of 12 male and female players from any country, region, province, state or territory.
Team members must wear an official uniform and have the support of their federation/national sporting organization or state/territory organization to compete.
EVENTS
Each bowler participating in the Tournament may bowl in the following events
Singles three games
Doubles three games
Mixed Doubles three games
Trio’s three games (no mixed trios)
Each bowler’s combined All Events total (combination of first singles, doubles and trios) will determine whether they qualify for the Masters Event. Mixed Doubles will be included as a first event if bowled before a doubles in either male or female division.
The bowler’s first attempt in each event is free (except for Mixed Doubles) and any subsequent attempt will cost $28 Aus.
MULTIPLE ENTRIES
Should a bowler wish to bowl more than once in any event, then they must pay $28 for each additional attempt to a maximum of 3 attempts in Singles, Doubles or Trios. All bowlers may bowl multiple entries in all events with the same or different combination (still a maximum of 3 attempts), i.e. Singles, Doubles and Trios.
PRIZES
Prizes for Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Trios, All Events and Masters will be Arafura Games Medallions. If a tie in any event is recorded multiple medals will be presented ie if there is a two way tie for Silver Medal then 2 silver medals will be awarded and no bronze medal in that event or if there is a three way tie for Gold Medal, then 3 gold medals will be awarded and no silver or bronze medal.
There will be cash prizes in both Men’s and Women’s Masters Events for Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up positions.
TEAM MAKEUP
Any doubles combination or trios combination must be made up with players from the same state/zone/territory/province or country otherwise the entry does not qualify for a medal in that particular event.
For instance, Trios must comprise all NT players, if 2 are from NT and 1 from NSW then that entry is not considered for a medal or a Games Record; however a local recognition award would apply.
REPORTING TIME
All participants must check in to the Tournament Desk 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time for bowling. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
SQUAD TIMES
Squad times for first entries (i.e. 3 games Singles, 3 games Doubles and 3 games Trios) will be allocated as entries are received. Preference will be given to international and other visiting bowlers depending on arrival and departure times. Additional entries will be allocated depending on lane availability after all participants have been allocated times to complete All Events entries.
EQUIPMENT
The tournament shall be conducted with equipment (lanes, pins, balls) which meet the specifications laid down in Chapters 9, 10 and 11 of the WTBA playing rules and regulations.
Random checks on players bowling equipment may take place at the end of each day’s play to ensure correct specifications of all bowling balls.
If a ball in a bowler’s possession is checked during or immediately following a session of games and proved to be outside of the specifications defined Chapter 11 of the WTBA playing rules and regulations, the last session of games bowled in the tournament by that bowler will not be recognised and the score will not be counted. If the game/s were bowled as part of a doubles or trios event, the bowlers score shall not be counted in the total for that session. An illegal ball in the player’s possession will be deemed to have been used in that session of games. Any records or awards achieved or presented prior to that session of continuous games will stand.
DRESS CODE
Bowler’s are required to be properly and appropriately dressed for bowling, and must be in a team uniform which represents their country, region, province, territory or state. If in the opinion of the Tournament Director or his/her appointed official on duty, a bowlers is not properly and appropriately dressed, he/she may not be permitted to bowl.
Men must wear long pants or slacks. Women may wear skirts, skorts, pants, slacks or dress shorts.
No board shorts, bike pants etc will be permitted.
PACERS
No pacers will be allowed in any event except Masters. This is only if a player withdraws with an injury.
SMOKING
There will be no smoking in the bowling centre during Arafura Games, and as per TBA rules, competing bowlers cannot go outside to smoke during a block of games, squad or final.
MASTERS EVENT
The Masters final will include the 16 male and 16 female bowlers with highest All Events totals. The All Events pinfall will be dropped for the Masters final.
The qualifying round will be bowled in a head to head (Round Robin) format over 15 games. The top four bowlers at the completion of the qualifying round will participate in a step ladder final as follows-
4th plays 3rd over one game
Winner plays 2nd over one game
Winner plays 1st over two games total pinfall– there will be no right of repercharge.
Bowlers qualifying for the final of the Masters event must pay $175 (Aus) to cover lineage and some cash prizes of the final. The finals prize money will be eventually determined by sponsorship obtained locally.
PROTEST – Eligibility, Fouls, General Playing Rules
Protests involving eligibility or general playing rules must be confirmed in writing to a responsible tournament official not later than 24 hours after the game in which the infraction occurred or before prize presentation, whichever is the sooner.
When a protest involving a foul or the legality of pinfall is entered, an official representative of the federation or associations involved may be present when evidence is taken relative to the protest.
If no written protest is entered prior to the expiration period as stated, the game or games shall stand as bowled.
Each rule under this rule shall not be construed to cover a similar or previous violation.
TOURNAMENT MANAGEMENT
There will be a
Tournament Director (June Voukolos),
Assistant Tournament Director (Ian Nicholls) and
Tournament Secretary (Kaye Talbot).
The Technical Committee shall comprise of a local and national technical delegate and will be advised to all Managers prior to the first session of the Arafura Games.
SPORTS TRIBUNAL
A Tenpin Bowling Sports Tribunal will comprise of a local, national and independent member to hear all protests, disputes or charges and will be advised to all Managers prior to the first session of the Arafura Games.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ARAFURA GAMES COMPETITORS
If Youth Teams wish to compete in the Open Arafura Games then they are able to do so but they MUST pay $28 for each 3 game attempt in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Trios and Masters Costs as per the Arafura Games Rules and Regulations. No complimentary 9 games will be permitted a second time.
Likewise if an Open Arafura Games Team meets the age requirements to compete in the Australasian Youth Championships they can do so but MUST pay $28 for each 3 game attempt in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Masters Costs a per the Australasian Youth Championship Rules and Regulations. No complimentary 9 games will be permitted a second time.

AUSTRALASIAN YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to all members; male and female who have membership with a WTBA affiliated association and to all registered bowlers with TBA, who are representing their country, region, province, state or territory in an official team of 3 or 6 male and 3 or 6 female bowlers who are under 23 years of age at January 1st 2009 but over the age of 14 years at that date.
