Event Details
The Arafura Tennis Competition aims to attract State and/or Regional athletes from the Asian, Pacific and Australian regions.
The Arafura Tennis Competition will consist of two event:
Able-Bodied event
Arafura Games medals can be won in Open Men's and Women's Singles as well as Open Men's, Women's and Mixed Doubles.
All Singles events will be main draw single elimination with consolation draws.
All Doubles events will be main draw single elimination.
Athletes are guaranteed a minimum of two singles and one doubles match.
*Draw types could change depending on entry numbers.
Wheelchair event
The Wheelchair Tennis Competition is an ITF Sanctioned event incorporate the Oceania Open Paralympic Championships.
Arafura Games medals can be won in Open Men's and Women's Singles as well as Open Doubles.
All Singles events will be main draw single elimination* with a second draw.
Doubles events will be main draw single elimination* with a second draw.
Athletes are guaranteed a minimum of two singles and one doubles match.
*Draw types could change depending on entry numbers.
All athletes must attend a pre-tournament sign in on Monday 11 May 2009 at the Gardens Tennis Complex, between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Athletes that don't sign in can not be guaranteed a place in the main draw.
Other Event Opportunities
All visiting athletes are invited to nominate for the Gardens Tennis Classic which will be played on Friday 8 May to Sunday 10 May 2009, prior to the commencement of the Arafura Games Competition.

- Boys 16 and Under Singles and Doubles
- Girls 16 and Under Singles and Doubles
Open events attract prize money.
Australian Ranking Points are available in the Open and 16 and Under categories.
All matches to be played on Saturday 9 May will be scheduled to finish early so competitors are able to attend the Arafura Games Opening Ceremony.
The nomination form for this event will be available from the Arafura Games website shortly or athletes can look on the Tennis NT website for more information.
Athletes will be required to pay a nomination fee to play in this event.
Event Formats
Singles - Best of 3 Sets
Consolation - Best of 2 sets, with a 10 point match tie-break
Doubles - Best of 2 sets, with a 10 point match tie-break
Event Location
The Gardens Tennis Complex will host the Arafura Tennis Competition. The Gardens Tennis Complex boasts 12 floodlit courts, fully equipped pro shop with restring, change room and canteen facilities.
Event Rules
Play will be in accordance with the Tennis Australia Rules of Tennis and Events Disciplinary Policy.
A Tournament Referee will be appointed.

How much will transport cost?
The Arafura Games Organisers will provide bus transfers for all teams on arrival and departure in Darwin. An official Games shuttle bus service will operate free of charge between accommodation houses and training and competition venues for all accredited participants.
Who is the Tennis Competition aimed at?
The Arafura Tennis Competition is aimed at emerging champions and development squads to gain international playing experience in an atmosphere of friendship.
When will the Tennis Competition be held?
Mathces will commence on Tuesday 12 May and conclude on Saturday 16 May 2009. Until final nominations have been received it is not possible to confirm exact playing times, however it is anticipated that morning and midday sessions will be scheduled. Athletes may be required to play more than two matches per day. Athletes are required to attend a pre-tournament sign in on Monday 11 May 2009 at the Gardens Tennis Complex between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Athletes that don't sign in can not be guaranteed a place in the main draw.
How much will it cost?
There is no registration fee to participate in the Arafura Games. However, you are responsible for costs associated with air travel, accomodation and daily living expenses. Arafura Games organisers provide transport to and from the airport to your accommodation, and to and from playing venues. Arafura Games Accreditation also provides free access on Darwin Public Transportation.
What about accomodation for my team and officials?
The closest accommodation is at SKYCITY, which has hotel rooms. This is a 2 minute walk to the tennis venue.
In addition to SKYCITY, Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues. A bedbank service will be available closer to the Games.
