Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost?
There is no registration fee to participate in the Arafura Games. However, you are responsible for costs associated with air travel, accommodation and daily living expenses. Arafura Games organisers provide transport to and from the airport to your place of accommodation, and to and from playing venues and accommodation. Arafura Games accreditation also provides free access to transportation using the Darwin Public Bus service.
What about accommodation for my team and officials?
Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues. These range from five-star hotels, motels and apartments to backpacker-style accommodation. An accommodation service will be available closer to the Games. Check the Arafura Games website www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au for more information.
Where can our team train?
Training facilities will be available to teams wishing to train in the days prior to the start of competition. The softball coordinator will be able to provide details of training venue and times closer to the start of the Games.
Can we bring an umpire to the Arafura Games?
Yes, all teams are encouraged to bring an umpire to the competition. It is important to notify the sport coordinator early if you will be bringing an umpire by completing an `Expression of Interest' form which you can find online at www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au. The umpire must have full qualifications to umpire during the tournament. Please contact the coordinator to confirm the level required.
Who can play in the softball competition?
The softball competition at Arafura Games 2009 will be for able-bodied women. The concept of the Games is 'emerging champions' hence there is a desire for teams to fit in with the intent of that principle. Softball has chosen not to apply age restrictions on its players.
