Hockey
Event Details
The Arafura Games 2009 hockey competition will again host Men's and Women's Open competitions and invites `emerging champions' of the sport to participate. All teams must have the support of their parent hockey body to attend the event.
The Marrara Hockey Centre in Darwin has two water based artificial pitches, both with lighting sufficient to allow games to be staged at night. There are four change rooms, a covered grandstand and canteen facilities at the Centre.
A pre competition managers meeting will be held at the Marrara Hockey Centre from 11am on Saturday 9th May.
Event Rules
Matches will be played in accordance with the rules of field hockey as laid down by the International Hockey Federation for the year of the Arafura Competition. Touring teams will comprise a maximum of 18 players per team. 16 players will be permitted to participate in any one game.
The competition format is dependent on the number of teams entered in the competition. Only one game will be played by a team each day. Where possible, a common rest day will be scheduled for all teams after a maximum of four games have been played. If possible, finals will be held to determine medal winners rather than the result being determined through only a round robin competition.
Event Location
