Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost?
There is no registration fee to participate in the Arafura Games. However, you are responsible for costs associated with air travel, accommodation and daily living expenses. Arafura Games organisers provide transport to and from the airport to your place of accommodation, and to and from playing venues and accommodation. Arafura Games accreditation also provides free access to transportation using the Darwin Public Bus service.
What about accommodation for my team and officials?
Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues. These range from five-star hotels, motels and apartments to backpacker-style accommodation. Accommodation bookings can be made through the Arafura Games Accommodation Booking Service. Visit the Arafura Games website www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au for a link to the Accommodation Booking Service, telephone: +61 8 8981 1875 or email arafura@thebestevents.com.au . Accommodation should be booked early to benefit from early specials and avoid disappointment.
Where can our team train?
Darwin City Council grounds located at Millner (Bagot Park Oval) and Malak (Malak Oval) are available for training purposes to football teams participating in the Arafura Games (to be confirmed). Both venues have football goals and marked pitches. Contact Football Coordinator Richard Beazley, info@footballnt.com.au to obtain further information.
Where do I catch a bus?
Public transport covers most of the Darwin and Palmerston areas with relatively easy access to training venues and accommodation outlets. Bus schedules will be available on the Arafura Games website at a later date.
What days will Football be played?
Football matches commence Sunday 10th May as a round-robin event and finish with the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal play-offs on a date to be confirmed.
Can we bring a referee to the Arafura Games?
Yes, all teams must provide a referee. It is important to provide details of your Referee when forwarding your `Expression of Interest' to the Games committee. A Football Federation Australia Accredited Referees Coach will be in attendance during the Arafura Games to conduct a referee seminar and a match Inspectors course.
What is the eligibility of teams from around Australia?
We welcome the participation of one team per state or territory from around Australia. Entry to the tournament is only available to an affiliated club/Zone/State of a FFA member. All Australian (interstate) teams must include a letter of sanction from their State Federation with their paperwork. This is to fulfil the protocols involved in visiting another part of the Australian Football Family. Letters of sanction will need to include a sentence that will indicate that registered participants of that travelling team are covered by the state bodies insurances (i.e. public liability and for personal accident or injury).
