Hawks Split Tough Weekend

Despite just winning one of their two games, the Ringwood Hawks will probably be reasonably satisfied with their weekend's work in what was a very tough double header challenge against Casey and Knox.

On Saturday night, the Hawks were sent a timely reminder that if you are a little bit off in your focus and determination, you will pay the price. A focused Casey Cavaliers completely dismantled the Hawks in a game that the league leading Hawks would like to forget.

A slow start proved too much for the Hawks who simply could not find a way to slow down the red hot Cavaliers. Scottie Stone was probably the only Hawk who could hold his head high as his team endured a 21 point loss, their worst defeat in two years.

The Hawks had no time to sulk though as they returned home on Sunday and to host the talented Knox Raiders hell bent of continuing their pain. This time would be different though and early on it was clear that Ringwood were not going to let this one slip as they had done the night before.

Matt Snow made sure the Hawks were ready to go and he found Stone (19 Points) and Jacob Gibson (18 points) with some good scoring looks. Anything they missed, Shaun Clarke and Trevor Latham were there to mop up. The Hawks built a 10 point lead in the first quarter and managed to hold on to it for most of the game.

Knox made a late run and got to within 5 points late in the game, but some good foul shooting put the game away for the Hawks.

“We need to get better, but that was two tough games in 20 hours that we faced.” Hawks Scottie Stone said.

“We were poor on Saturday night, but today it was great how we responded under adversity.”

The split weekend still has the Hawks 2 games clear in first place, but with 5 games remaining there are plenty of teams chasing them. Next week Ringwood hit the road again with a trip to Keilor in a game they simply must win. Keilor are a team that has struggled at times but have shown the ability to beat top teams.

RINGWOOD HAWKS 97 (Stone 28, Gibson 20, Snowball 19) lost to CASEY CAVALIERS 115 at Casey Stadium.

RINGWOOD HAWKS 96 (Stone 19, Gibson 18, Fennell 18, Clarke 14) defeated KNOX RAIDERS 85 at The Rings, Ringwood.
