Glenelg
Start getting excited about the World Tour coming to Australia! The 3,000 seat stadium for the SWATCH FIVB Beach Volley World Tour Adelaide Australia Open, to be contested at Glenelg beach from 25-30 March, is taking shape with the grandstands being installed and the first delivery of the 1,900 tonnes of sand arriving this week! Moseley Square is being transformed as we speak. To actually see how big this stadium is going to be takes your breath away. The World Tour is about to take over Glenelg!
You may be asking why there is sand being delivered to Glenelg beach. Well the quality of the sand at Adelaide`s most popular beach destination is too good! Yes, that`s right...the Glenelg sand does not meet the standards of the FIVB as it is too fine and the FIVB believes the sand could compact under rainy conditions. With the drought that Australia is going through and furthermore, the current heat wave that Adelaide is experiencing you may think we don`t need to worry about that but with any event you need to be prepared for anything and the safety of the athletes and the playing surface being suitable is of upmost importance.
Moseley Square, where Jetty Road meets the beach, is the terminus for the City-to-Bay Tram, synonymous with Glenelg for 70 years and used and adored by residents, commuters, shoppers and visitors every day.
