MEMORANDUM

To:               Association Referee Advisors

From:            Bruce Keirs – Manager, Education & Officials Development / Bill Mildenhall, BV Referee Development Officer

Subject:        Australian Schools Championship, Referee Development Camp

Date:            Tuesday30th  September 2014

Basketball Australia and Basketball ACT are preparing for a major Referee Development Camp for December 2014.

The camp is to be held in conjunction with the Australian Schools Championships in ACT from 1st to 5th December 2014.

This camp will be known as the “2014 Zebra Tour”, commencing on the 30th November and finishing in the afternoon of the 5th December 2014.

The tournament will involve refereeing the non-championships divisions of the Australian Schools Championships, with experienced referee coaches providing feedback and coaching as required, along with formalised educational sessions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for referees to develop their skills and meet other referees in a friendly, fun and exciting camp style environment.

The objective of the Development Camp is to provide unique education and training for developing referees and combining this with hands on experiences and coaching while officiating quality standard games in the Australian Schools Championships.

The program will involve formal theoretical education sessions on Sunday evening, of 30th. November and then follow up with practical expert coaching during games conducted at the tournament from Monday 1st. to Friday 5th.

The camp commences for interstate referees 6.00pm Sunday 30th November and the event concludes on Friday 5th December at 3.00pm. In conjunction with Basketball Canberra and the VBRA we are attempting to arrange bus travel (mini bus) from Victoria to Canberra and return, at no cost to the participants.

It is anticipated that the bus would be leaving Melbourne around 7.00am on 30th. November and arriving in Canberra around 4.00pm. Departure from Canberra on 5th. December around 3.00pm arriving back in Melbourne around 11.00pm.

Fortunately the cost to the participants has been kept close to the previous years. Accommodation is at the UC Village on the University of Canberra, all meals and a tournament shirt will be provided and includes the ground transport to the various venues from the accommodation.

Game fees of $10 per game will be paid to all referees.

Could you please forward on this further information along with the attached “Expressions of Interest Forms” to appropriate referees and to all those concerned in the development of referees?

An expression of interest form will soon follow for the referee coaches wishing to attend.

More detailed information will be provided in October, to those officials completing an expression of interest form.

Regards
