NWBU Under 22 Preview - Friday 20th November

In the women’s pre-final Friday night, Ulverstone take on Burnie at Latrobe. Ulverstone will start favourites as they have beaten Burnie both times in the regular season. However, Ulverstone have had two big losses to Penguin in the last two games and will be down on confidence.

The team that can gain ascendency inside the paint, will be able to control the game. Burnie will rely heavily on Taylor Mole to use her height to help them on the boards and create second chance scoring opportunities.

Ulverstone will rely heavily on the experience of Jesse Price, Georgia Davenport and Charlotte O’Neill to control the tempo of the game and run their offensive structures.

Hayley Shepherd has had a very good season since moving across from Penguin, and her role will be vital if Burnie are going to upset Ulverstone.

Penguin take on Latrobe in the men’s pre-final. Last time they met, Penguin comprehensively beat Latrobe. However, this will be a much closer contest, with Latrobe getting back to their good form they displayed earlier in the season.

Latrobe must defend Penguin’s large number of players who can score heavily from the three point line as well as stopping Ryan Cook’s inside presence.

Latrobe will need another big game from Blake Charles, to dominate the boards and restrict any second chance opportunities for Penguin.

Likewise Penguin will need to restrict Latrobe’s high octane transition game.

This game should be most entertaining and will go right down to the wire.

The winner of the women’s game will play Penguin in the Grand Final at Penguin on Tuesday night, while the men’s winner will face Burnie.
