Basketball Tasmania - Clearance Policy

Basketball Tasmania (BTas) has been involved in discussions with all stakeholders via the BTas Competitions Commission and discussions held at BTas Board meetings. A meeting of the Competitions Commission held on 11/8/2011 called for a By-Law/By-Law Policy to provide a stronger framework surrounding the current clearance transfer requirements in relation to last minute transfers between Associations for the sole purpose of providing players with the opportunity to play in State under age championships.

This practice has been considered as not being in the best interest of the sport at large. Whilst it may serve to get some athletes a game at State Championship level and strengthen some of the entering Associations teams it has been considered as unfair to other competing Associations in State Championships and indeed unfair to athletes who may in fact miss out because of athletes transferring from other Associations
