Penguin women and Burnie men move into the Grand Final to be played at Penguin on Tuesday 24th.

The closest game for the night, in front of a very good crowd, was the Burnie women and Somerset in the first semi-final. Several times during the game Burnie managed to get out to a good lead, but each time Somerset made a spirited comeback.

Somerset were in team foul trouble early in the last quarter, which allowed Burnie to get to the free throw line several times. It was not until during the last minute, that Burnie was able to make some crucial free throws to seal the game.

Taylor Mole was important for Burnie with her inside play, while the ever reliable Sammi Phillips kept Somerset in the game with 21 points.

In the women’s second semi-final, Penguin completely dominated Ulverstone with an outstanding 24 – 9 first quarter effort. Ulverstone were never able to get themselves back into the game.

Rebecca Abel was at her brilliant best, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, followed up with 12 points in the second quarter, finishing with an outstanding 42 points for the game.

Latrobe men used their height and experience to outplay Ulverstone in the first semi-final. After a very close first quarter where Ulverstone led 18 -14. Latrobe stepped up their defence restricting Ulverstone to 10 points in the second quarter.

Latrobe’s Blake Charles used his height to dominate inside, while Ulverstone’s Harry O’Neill played another good game, scoring a game high 20 points.

After a slow start, Burnie men took control of the game after the first quarter against Penguin in the second semi-final. Burnie’s experienced players asserted their authority on the game, combined with their greater bench depth to shut down Penguin’s offence.

Tre Armstrong led all scorers with 17 points.

Burnie women will play Ulverstone in the Preliminary final at Latrobe on Friday night.

Penguin men will play Latrobe.
