ASBA History

Basketball has been played in Alice Springs since 1948. During this time basketball has had 2 homes. First basketball was played at Anzac Hill where games were played on outdoor courts. In 1971, basketball moved to the Traegar Park sporting Complex, still played on outdoor courts. In 1983, through the help of NT government grants, the outdoor courts were converted to the present indoor stadium still only having 2 courts.

It was in 1986, another court was added to give the present 3 court stadium, which is of a standard for any Australian Championship tournament. During the years many NBL teams have played pre-season games at our stadium. The Alice Springs Basketball Association Incorporated has worked hard over the past 24 years to maintain and preserve the establishment.

Alice Springs Basketball Association Inc. is committed to developing basketball in Alice Springs as a sport for people of all ages and levels and also encourages all to play for enjoyment. The Association is also committed to development in the area of Junior and Senior Development and also elite levels.
