Success for local referees

MURRAY Bridge referees Jake Cazzolato and Sam Le Gallou have tasted success in recent months.

Cazzolato was awarded his Basketball Australia Level 1 certificate during the SA Country Championships in March. This achievement has been catalysed by his commitment to refereeing in the local competition as well as at regional tournaments and finals and the Basketball SA Junior District Competition.

Le Gallou has also had success on court, returning from the National Schools Basketball Championships in December with a bronze medal. This was followed by a gold medal in January at the Pacific Coast Slam in Port Macquarie. He was also selected to attend the Under 18 National Championships held recently.

Le Gallou said there were several local referees that have the opportunity to also represent South Australia.

"We've got some fantastic young referees developing here in Murray Bridge, and I would expect, within a few years, to see them attend (The Australian Junior Basketball) Country Cup and National Championships," he said.

"There's quite a lot of potential there if they stick around."

Le Gallou thanked Basketball SA for the opportunity to attend the championships and Murray Bridge Basketball who were always supportive of the achievements and development of referees. He also acknowledges SA Country Basketball for their important input in referee development.
