Bullets October and Mt Gambier carnival reports 2011

Bullets U/12 Girls Div 1

U12 Girls Bullets Dominate Mount Gambier

There was a great deal of positivity amongst the U/12 Bullets girls heading into the first game. Millicent were out to settle a score following their defeat in the Grand final at the Murray Bridge Carnival. Both teams played good defence with Bullets scoring first and with strong consistent defence they finished 22 – 12. Portland were our next opponent and again the girls showed their worth with great defence and good passes taking them to the finish line with a very convincing win. Sunday saw Mt Gambier bring a hard, fast and physical game to the court as they have on previous occasions. Bullets gave their all with some great rebounding and lay-ups that ended with a score, another good win for Bullets 26 – 20. Great Southern brought their best game to this round scoring first and continuing to make their shots. The Bullets had to work extra hard in defence to get the ball back. GS were leading first 3 quarters but both teams were determined to win which made for an exciting game with Bullets finishing with a 2 point lead 26 – 24. Bullets met Mt Gambier in the grand final and knew it would be another tough battle. A very physical game with both teams with both teams in foul trouble quite early in the game. It was a very fast paced game where girls on both sides were scrambling for every loose ball. Strong man on man defence and some good positioning from the team saw our girls have another big win to clench the final. Well done girls and a big thank you to our coach Marc Maddaford and team manager Tracey Long.

The Bullets U12girls have now won both the Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier carnivals so far and now look forward to the Great Southern Carnival. Well done girls, parents and helpers.

MURRAY BRIDGE BULLETS UNDER 14 GIRLS MEDIA REPORT

In their first game of the season on Sat night at the new Unity Stadium, Coached by Lorelle Barton & Emma Harrison, Bullets Under 14 Girls Div 1 consisting of Shayelan Paech, Tia-Jae Conway- Jaensch, Emma Jacobs-Barden, Tayla Groves, Rhiannon Yeates, Charley Traeger, Helene Altmann & Emily Paech played Millicent A Team. Bullets started with strong attack to the basket and were tight in defence against Millicent. Bullets had control of the game for the first three quarters, and were unlucky in the last couple of minutes, when the scores were tight and Millicent grabbed a couple of shots to put their team at the front for the first time in the game and sealed it at the final siren to win against the Bullets girls 35-32.

Bullets were able to take the win from both sides played on Sunday. The games against Eastern Hills and Millicent B saw some excellent passages of play in each game. The Under 14 Girls displayed some spectacular skill & determination for their age. Results: vs. Eastern Hills 62-27, Millicent B 34-20.

Bullets met Eastern Hills again and played confidently to gain themselves a grand final game on Monday winning 41-9 and came up against the Millicent A team. Bullets lead the game to the end, despite big efforts from the Millicent girls who were accurate shooters and outstanding in defence.

Fantastic effort for their first carnival of the season, Bullets Under 14 girls brought home the medal by defeating Millicent A 22-12.

Under 12 Boys Div 1

The Mount Gambier carnival is always one that we look forward to competing in and it was evident that there has been great improvement from our last carnival. Jack Laube was a new player to the team and really stepped up to the challenge rebounding well under the ring which was great support for Dylan Schenscher and Kyle Dalitz. Riley Smelt and Daniel Altmann drove the ball strongly and often found the basket with positive results. William Crane, Alex Hein and Kobe Allen applied pressure mid court resulting in many turnovers and were able to bring the ball down the court with confidence often converting.

We played Mount Gambier, Hamilton, Naracoorte and Eastern Hills – although we didn’t win a match we were very competitive and made our opposition work hard for their win.

UNDER 14 BOYS DIV 1

Mt Gambier Carnival 2011

Bullets first game against Eastern Hills was a very tough start to the carnival, Eastern Hills applying pressure right from the start made it very difficult for Bullets to score consistently. Bullets going down 17-42.

The next game was a very competitive game against Mt Gambier. Both teams worked hard all game both in defence and offense which saw an even contest right to the very end, Foul shots in the last 10 seconds saw Mt Gambier win by .1 point, 29-30.

Game 3 was up against Portland. After an even start Portland settled quickly and with strong defence forced turnovers, allowing them to score. Bullets endeavoured to catch up with persistence but were out scored   Bullets lost 33-56

Bullets final game was a cross over game against a very experienced and well drilled Great Southern who finished top in their pool. Scoring was very difficult but, to the boys credit as with all games over the weekend they never gave up and tried hard right to the end going down 17-61

Murray Bridge Bullets Under 14 Boys Div 2

The first game against Port Fairy saw a lot of nerves from the Bullets players, resulting in simple mistakes and Port Fairy getting control of the game early in the piece. The second half of the game saw the boys pull off some great defence, going down fighting losing the game 6 – 42.

Next up was Millicent who started well making Bullets work hard. Millicent was up by 20 at half-time. The second half saw Bullets combine well as a team and apply some great pressure, unfortunately still going down 16 – 31.

Game three was against Naracoorte and although the boys tried hard, scoring was difficult. Bullets defence improved in the last half. Stopping Naracoorte from scoring so easily, Bullets still struggled to get the points on the board, going down to a well drilled team 3- 75.

Game four saw Bullets pull together as a team, but still could not match Mount Gambier’s skills. Down by 22 at half time the Bullets gave all they had, however great driving and strong play saw Mt Gambier power away to win 13 -54.

The final game was against Keith and again Bullets gave all they had to keep a tight game. They were unable to convert the points on the board. Great defence by Bullets in the second half saw Keith start to struggle. Unfortunately however rushed shots and passes created errors in the Bullets game, with the final score 27 – 72.
