Bullets Under 18 Girls Division 2

The Bullets first game against Strathalbyn provided an exciting start to the carnival with scores even at both quarter and half time. Bullets played well as a team with newcomers Jessie Lloyd and Tihrin Bockman contributing as soon as they entered the court.

Kelsey Gepp and Caitlin Bratkovic put lots of pressure on the Strathalbyn girls constantly driving to the basket. Talia Freak and Nicole Bissell pulled in some good rebounds under the basket and made scoring difficult for their opponents. Ashley Cox played with strong determination and Zoe Harrison managed to score 4 out of 5 free throws in the last quarter keeping the scores close. Strathalbyn however were in front at the final siren by 3 points.

Bullets went into the next game against Bordertown very determined. A decision by the coaches to change tactics at half time put the team in front, winning by 8 points.

A 19 point loss against Casterton on Saturday night meant the Bullets faced Bordertown again in their Semi Final. Bullets won this in a tight game, by 4 points.

A nail-biting Grand Final against Casterton followed. Some accurate free throw shooting in the last seconds of the game saw the Bullets bring home the medal by 2 points!

Bullets Under 18 Division 2 Boys

Tight team work and strong attacking pressure was shown by the under 18 division 2 Bullets team over their 6 games during October long weekend. Although not enough to win, players showed great pressure and communication regardless of the clear height difference compared to the other teams.

The first game against Bullets under 18’s division 1 was a good warm up. Although there were some great passes of play by Bullets div 2, the passes were not strong enough, Bullets div 1 winning the game; 65 to 27.

Game 2 against Woodville A was close in the first quarter with strong play and determination against the tough opponent. The team played hard but it was not enough for them to take the win, fumbling under pressure in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Bullets 37 vs. Woodville 67.

The third game against Great Southern showed great teamwork by Bullets once again, scoring the majority of goals from fouls giving Bullets the lead at the end of 2nd quarter; As the game slowed down, GS showed stronger attack, Bullets defence struggling. A close game, Great Southern winning the game 37 vs. Bullets 30.

Game 4 showed a great 4th quarter with Bullets applying great pressure, although not enough to get the win.            . The last quarter was physically contested by both teams, with Woodville coming through with the win, 42 vs. 33.

Bullets working hard in their last game against Eastern Hills got them 2 goals up in first quarter. Eastern Hills play settled giving them the lead by 9 in the 2nd quarter. Some great 3 pointers by Bullets in the 3rd quarter were not enough to get them over the line, although an outstanding game was played to finish the weekend. Eastern Hills 56 vs. Bullets 42.

Mt Gambier Carnival 2011

The first game was against Strathalbyn. Both sides took time to settle, but Strathalbyn had plenty of 3 point shots finding the ring. By the third quarter, Bullets’ had many fouls called against them, but close the gap by the final siren losing by one point. Portland were next where the score remained even all game, with Bullets’ just behind , leveling the score during the third quarter with some impressive 3 pointers. It was goal for goal in the last minute of play, with Portland getting a couple of fast breaks to win by 4 points. When Bullets faced Millicent, the game developed into a tough hard fought battle. Bullets’ scored well and played a good team game. With great defence and accurate shooting, Bullets’ became victors by 25 points. Bullets’ and Warnambool both started slowly, finding it hard to establish their plays. The game became quite physical and defensive.

Bullets’ were down tow players due to injury and were unable to stop Warnambool, going down by 17 points. Mt Gambier and Bullets defended well with 1 point the difference at quarter time. Bullets gained momentum with accurate shooting, but Mt Gambier hit back to win by 2 points.

Bullets first game was against Hamilton, after a slow start from bullets they eventually found their groove scoring well in the first half, unfortunately the pressure from Hamilton was very strong and found the bullets struggling to keep up. Final score,

Bullets 29 Hamilton 44

Second match was against Keith in a fast paced game. Bullets defence was good and they scored well in a highly contested and hard fought match. Final score,

Bullets 22 Keith 33

Bullets third game was against the very strong Naracoorte, they came to the court wanting to win. The pressure was on the Bullets to defend a very physical team. Bullets shooting let them down.

Naracoorte 40 Bullets 23

Fourth Game was against Casterton, who hadn’t lost a game at that stage. Bullets went out hard and out scored them in the first half. A combination of applying good pressure and finally finding the basket on a regular basis helped the bullets to stay in the game. Unfortunately the Bullets were not quite strong enough going down by ten in a fantastic game.

Under 18 Girls Div 1

Mt Gambier Carnival 2011

Coach Paul Salter asked for a commitment from the first ball up to show other teams that Murray Bridge had come to play and the girls didn’t disappoint defeating Millicent 29 to 18. Salter then asked the girls to give a little more for the next game against Portland as no South Aussie likes to lose to a Victorian. Samantha Lubcke scored freely and was ably assisted by twin sister Stephanie. New player Bianca Kahl showed promise with many rebounds and a quick transition to Monique Thompson allowed Bullets to run their set plays and take the win 41 to 27.

Madi Salter shot freely in game three against Mount Gambier and Larissa Schenscher was showing true grit by continuing to give her all. Game three produced another win 42 to 39 to enable Bullets to finish top of their pool.

The semi final against Portland was a physical contest. Georgia Steinert and Sophie Ansell stood up to the physicality to help the team to a 49 to 29 victory. The grand final against Mount Gambier saw Bullets in early foul trouble which proved costly with Bullets being defeated by the narrowest of margins 36 to 37.
