Murray Bridge contingency named in South Australian Country teams

Sixteen of Murray Bridge’s talented junior basketballers have been selected to represent South Australia Country at two tournaments in January 2011

The first of these tournaments is the 24th Annual Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup to be conducted from January 17th to 22nd in Albury, New South Wales. One hundred and twenty athletes make the trip to compete in the Under 14, 16 and 18 Boys and Girls grades, along with Coaches, Referees and Managers

Murray Bridge Basketball Association has seven boys attending including Michael Wegener and Nick Thomson who will be making debuts in the Under14 Boys, whilst Nat Wright will make the trip again in the Under16 Boys Team. Brad Hunter has been selected as a reserve in the Under 16 Boys Squad.  This year a strong contingency of players have been named in the Under18 Men’s squads including Brett Altschwager, Jackson Thomson, Brayden Dalitz and Brad Hartmann, who will be attending the event for his fifth time.

Similarly the association is also thrilled that eight of their girls have made teams for the tournament in Albury. Kenisha Seidel and Kedeisha Kartinyeri are going for the first time in the Under 14 girls, Tori Wilson, Monique Thompson and Samantha Lubcke are going again in the Under 16 Girls teams. Stephanie Lubcke has been selected as a reserve for the Under 16 Girls team.  Under18 women Georgie Garard, Alex Wilson and Nikki Dougall have had their commitment and hard work rewarded by gaining state selection in the Under 18 Women’s squad for the fifth time.

The second tournament that South Australia Country is participating in for the fourth time is the 2011 Pacific Coast Slam to be played at Port Macquarie, New South Wales between the 14th and the 23rd of January. This tournament sees Under 15 & 17 Boys and Girls teams participating from various states from around the country.Brad Wright has been selected to play in the Under 15 Boys team.

All players are currently working on home programs getting themselves ready for the tournaments.

Murray Bridge’s Paul Salter heads to Albury and Sam LeGallou heads to Port Macquarie as part of the coaching contingency while Libby Frazer, Lucy Bozzetti, Jake Salter, Kris Dalitz and Jordan Hollitt will be attending Albury as team managers and Julie Wright a manager at Port Macquarie.

Matt McLoughlin has been rewarded an umpiring position again at Albury after his fantastic performance last year at the tournament.
