Talented Trio

A TRIO of the Murray Bridge Basketball Association’s most talented athletes are currently in Terrigal, New South Wales, competing in the under 18 National Basketball Championships.

At the nationals the cream of the crop from Australia and New Zealand will compete in a week-long tournament.

Local talent Alex Wilson heads to the tournament as a younger aged athlete looking to build on her formidable skill set and add to her experience at a higher level.

Wilson has impressed at pre-tournament trainings and trial games and her inclusion in the current Australian squad should see her figure strongly in the team’s performance.

South Australia Country is confident of a strong showing by the women’s team, packed with talentincluding four girls currently included in the Australian squad.

Jake Salter heads to the tournament full of confidence and experience, being only one of two athletes in this year’s team who has competed at the elite level.

Salter takes with him some great form, recently being part of the winning Bullets team to take out the State Country Championships.

His contribution in the tournament will be pivotal as he would be matched up against some of the tallest and most athletic players in the nation.

Brad Hartman has been included as a bottom aged athletes in the team.

Hartman’s athleticism, based on an incredible leap and burst of speed, has made him an exciting player to watch and he will no doubt catch the eye of opposition teams.

He has cemented his position in the Mavericks division one district team this year, playing exceptional minutes.

This experience and his natural sporting ability will see Hartman play key minutes throughout the nationals.

South Australia Country is also confident of a strong showing by its men’s team.

The team will need to play at its best as it will come up against sides who will be much taller.

Coach Paul Salter, also from Murray Bridge, said he believed that if the team played to it full potential it should be very competitive.

Sam Le Gallou is one of four South Australian officials selected to referee at the event.
