New Umpires at the Bridge

New Umpires at the Bridge

During the October long weekend Lucinda Howell and Kalimna Roe-Simons were presented with their official grey shirts for Umpiring by Nanette Farell.   Nanette a former Murray Bridge girl, who started her umpiring career under the tutelage, of Joy Morris back in 1983 and continued on at Murray Bridge until 1987, she is also a level 2 ref who is on the state referee development programme. Nanette believes that “all country associations whether it’s playing or umpiring need the local community to support them.” She also said “Country clubs miss out on so much of the help with development due to distance from the city. We have a high standard of country refs that represent SA country at Nationals every year and we should be proud of that. But sometimes finances hinder others from getting to that level.” Nanette spoke of the long hours and hard work that the two girls had put in to receive their new grading, and hopes that both girls continue to develop their umpiring skills into the future. She also encourages other umpires on their green shirts continue to work towards their grey shirts as a game can not be played without the help of the umpires.
