3 Basketballers set to represent SA in National Championships

Three of Murray Bridge's talented basketballers Bradley Wright, Samantha Lubcke & Nathan Wright are heading to Kilsyth, Victoria to represent South Australia Country at the National Championships between 9th and 16th July.

Another local player, Monique Thompson was also unlucky to have missed representation being names reserve.

The Championships will see a total of 28 Men’s and Women’s teams from all states and Territories of Australia and 2 teams from New Zealand compete to become National Champions.

Nathan Wright has also had the honor of being selected as Captain, an excellent accomplishment which shows his standing both within the team and also the coaching staff.

The men’s competition will see S.A Country come up against one of the competitions heavy weights, New South Wales Metro on the first day. This no doubt will be a huge challenge and the result will give the team a gauge as to where their standing in the pack for the remainder of the week will be. The team then moves on to play Northern Territory, Tasmania, Western Australia Metro, Queensland South and Victoria Country on consecutive days, leading into the finals series later in the week.

The women’s team appears to have what should be an easier start to the competition with their first clash being against Northern Territory. Historically South Australia Country has a great record against the Territory teams so hopefully this will see them start the competition with a solid win. The women then go on to have a bye on the second day. This should see them rested to take on competition favorites Victoria Metro the following day, a double header then against Western Australia Metro & Tasmania, New South Wales Metro and then Queensland North. As with the Men the competition then heads into a cross-over finals arrangement to complete for final placing.

The Murray Bridge Basketball Association wishes the three athletes all the best for what will be a very tiring week but a week that they will remember for ever.
