Razorbacks Chase National Title

The West Sydney Razorbacks wheelchair basketball team begin their pursuit of the 2008 National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) premiership title this Saturday afternoon, when they play the Wenty Leagues Wheelkings at the Ryde Aquatic Centre (RAC).

The Razorbacks will again be led by Australian Male Paralympians Troy Sachs and Brendan Dowler this season, along with South African international Nick Taylor and Australian female Paralympians Katie Hill and Sarah Stewart.

The Wheelkings will be led by Dutch Paralympian Koen Jansens, who is a veteran of numerous World Championships and Paralympic Games and is widely regarded as one of his countries best-ever players.

Supporting Jansens will be three members of the Australian Men's wheelchair basketball squad (Rollers) in Bill Latham, Jeremy Van Asperen and Craig Cannane, along with three members of the Australian Women's Wheelchair Basketball team (Gliders), in Kylie Gauci, Liesl Tesch and Tina McKenzie, who are also all Paralympians.

The competing teams in 2008 will be the Brisbane Spinning Bullets (Qld), Adelaide Thunder (SA), Dandenong Rangers (Vic), Perth Wheelcats (WA),  "Highlube" Wollongong Roller Hawks, Wheelkings and Razorbacks (NSW).

The NWBL season begins on Saturday May 24 at the Ryde Aquatic Centre, with the Wheelkings and Razorbacks locking wheels at the tip-off at 11.30am.
