AFL BH Chairman, Peter Nash, said today was a great day for community engagement with the Broken Hill Golf Club loaning its Aerator and Tractor to AFL BH to aerate the Jubilee Oval.
Following a visit to Broken Hill on Sept 24th last year by Daryl Sellar from Turfwise Consulting the Board has been investigating ways to purchase a Aerator, with the assistance of AFL NSW/ACT.
A chance meeting led to Mr Nash contacting the then President of the Golf Club Steve Tucker to inquire about gaining access to their aerator, and today is the realisation of that process.
A clear recommendation from Mr Sellar’s report was to have a maintenance program and aeration and fertilising were key components of the recommendations.
Later this week the Jube will be fertilised and then its full steam ahead pumping plenty of water into the surface in preparation for season 2013.
The weather during summer has been very hot and dry and thus all sporting fields are looking worse than a year ago when we had plenty of rain during December/January Mr Nash said.
The Board is also delighted that Paul Nilsen has joined the Competition Management Committee as the Jube advisor.
Paul has a wealth of experience and is already networking well with the ground staff to prepare the Jube as best we can. Unfortunately things keep challenging us said Mr Nilsen and this week it’s a pump break down and also Essential Water are doing an upgrade which has denied us of water for a few days.
The Community can rest assured we are doing all we can to improve the surface but realistically we are twelve months away from having the ground in better condition.
AFL BH are working on a plan to thank the Golf Club and details will be released in the next week once both parties have had a chance to work out the finer details.
