BG Championship Wrap (Round 10)
Pivot City sounded
an ominous warning to its rivals in the Basketball Geelong women's division one
competition on Tuesday night with a resounding 69-29 thumping of an undermanned
YMCA.
College returnee
Bianca Cheever and Lady Cats guard Olivia Cameron, playing just her first game
of the season, both finished with 24 points as the reigning summer champions
moved to within a point of the top four.
The victory
reflected a 72 point turnaround from the last time the two teams met in round
five, however Y was without Madi Koehler and Maddy Taylor.
Rovers
consolidated their competiton lead with a 39-30 victory over Try Boys to extend
their gap on the Bears to five points at the top of the table, with Sherrie
Noonan (12 points) and Lana Ryder (10) proving the difference between the two
teams.
The clash between
Sharks and Rovers Hawks was called off due to a water leak on court one at The
Arena Annexe.
Tigers held a shock
lead at half-time of their clash with Pivot City, thanks to a 27 point first
half from Youth League guard Ben Scannell.
However Supercats
centre Daniel George went on a scoring spree of his own after the main break,
scoring 29 in the second half, to finish with 41 for the game, and help the
Pivotonians to a 101-80 win.
Scannell finished
with 37 to continue his fine season.
It was a big night
also for another Supercat, with Nick Owusu torching a hapless Lara for 47 in
Christian College Eagles' 112-29 smashing of the Giants.
Try Boys
Bears ensured nobody would forget they're a legitimate championship threat with
a 73-56 win over fellow finals contenders YMCA.
Big V veteran Paul
Hutchison dropped 20 points for the Bears, while former Supercats'skipper Jordan
Hill had 14 for Y.
Sharks Grey remain a
game outside the top four after a 66-55 victory over Try Boys, with Supercats
back-up guard Dane Bow finishing with 15 in an even
performance.
Sharks Black and
Dolphins both still remain winless after playing a 49-all
draw.
