Round 8 Basketball Geelong Winter Division One Wrap
Tigers have
broken through for their first win of the Basketball Geelong men’s championship
season in a high scoring 108-84 against fellow cellar-dwellers Dolphins on
Tuesday night.
Playing
coach Simon Evans led from the front with 25 points, while Andrew Luttrell had
22 and Ben Scannell 21.
Mikey Lesic
starred with 35 for Dolphins to continue his solid form.
Supercat
Nick Owusu scored 39 points as
Matt
Hardiman was the Bears’ best with 28 points, while the ever-reliable Steve
Hyland finished with 16.
Jordan
Finch (35 points) and back-up Big V centre Pete Van Der Burg (30) combined to
help YMCA thump Try Boys 110-55.
They were
among five players in double figures for Y.
Nathan
Maxwell was Try Boys’ best with 20.
Sharks
maintained its spot in the top four with a narrow 74-68 win over Lara.
Dane Bow
led the competition’s surprise packets with 23 points, while Daniel Hovey was
again solid with 16.
Brenton
Walker (26 points) and Corey Smith (21) were the Giants’ best.
Five
players scored in double figures as
Veteran Adam
Clapinski finished with 21 points, while Christian Keepen dropped 18.
In the
women’s competition
Sarah
Welfare led the charge with 28 points, while Big V Youth League star Ebony
Tannouri had 27.
Kim Martin
was Cougars’ best with 21.
Rovers’
maintained second spot on the ladder with a comfortable 64-41 victory over
YMCA.
Star
shooter Prue Kenny proved the difference between the two teams with 20 points,
while Tania Du Plessis had 14.
Vicki King
again played a lone hand for Y, finishing with 16.
Veteran
Lady Cat Lauren Green starred with 19 points in Try Boys' routine 80-43 win
over Rovers Hawks.
The
Brockett twins- Chantelle (18 points) and Katherine (15) - also had an impact.
