Kylie Morrissy signs with the Lady Cats
The Geelong Lady Cats have received a major boost for the
2010 Big V season with home-grown guard Kylie Morrissy committing to the
program.
Having completed four seasons of college basketball at
Morrissy returns home next month to start her professional career with the
WNBL’s Dandenong Rangers.
Once the Rangers’ WNBL season is over, Morrissy will slip
into a Lady Cats uniform to help lead the way as
playoffs.
A member of Rovers in the Basketball Geelong domestic
competition, Morrissy averaged a team-high 16.9 ppg and grabbed 4.6 rebounds
while starting all 30 games for
It is those numbers and her athletic, determined, all-action
style of play that will provide the Lady Cats with plenty of energy and give
the fans something to look forward to.
``There is no question Kylie was a key target for us and
we’re thrilled that she has committed to play for us,’’ Lady Cats coach
Grantley Bernard said.
``She is a dynamic player, good scorer, good rebounder and
she wants to win. They are the qualities we’re looking for.
``There are other players we are trying to recruit and we
believe Kylie will help that process because they will want to play with her.’’
During her four seasons at
games, averaging 13.1 ppg and 4.9 rebounds to make her one of the school’s
leading players during that period.
The Lady Cats and the Youth League women’s teams have
started pre-season training and will be looking to finalise the rosters in the
next few weeks.
