Christian College out muscle Sharks

Order has been restored at the top end of the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship standings.

With the run-in to the playoffs about to commence, Christian College Eagles flexed their considerable muscle with a 37-point win over Sharks at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Fifth-placed Sharks simply had no answers to the second-placed Christian College line-up as Brett Seljak (23 points), Nick Owusu (23 points) and Leon O’Neill (21 points) led the way.

Sharks got a good hand from Dane Bow (19 points) but they now desperately need a string of wins if they are to dislodge a team from the top four.

Top-of-the-ladder YMCA posted a solid 79-46 win over Try Boys as Ben Suchanek (22 points), Tristan Johnson (21 points) and Chris Brown (19 points) got the job done.

It was always going to be a tough gig for Try Boys, who were led by Nathan Maxwell (12 points) and James Swallow (12 points).

Try Boys Bears are heading for the playoffs, but they needed a strong effort to see off Vytis, 56-47.

Steve Hyland (17 points) and Marty De Lange (15 points) led the Bears, while Big V players Romy Liebich (14 points) and Steve Wiasak (14 points) paced Vytis.

In the other games, YMCA Cougars took care of Sharks Runners, 57-36, while Dolphins won for only the second time, beating Rovers, 74-70.

Pivot City continued its recent unbeaten run to put some teams on notice in the BG Division One women’s championship.

Needing a 40-minute effort, Pivot was able to finally get over an experienced Rovers line-up that was without key players Prue Kenny and Kylie Morrissy.

But with Olivia Cameron (19 points) and Jamie Rodden (16 points) doing well, Pivot City was able to sneak away in the closing minutes for a 63-56 win.

Lana Ryder-Kowalski (25) was outstanding for Rovers, while Tania Du Plessis (12 points) did well.

First-placed YMCA made a point with a 96-43 thrashing of Rovers Hawks as six players scored in double digits.

Madison Koehler (26 points) and Vicki Mallon (20 points) led the way for YMCA, while Ellie Stevens (15 points) and Jess Watson (12 points) were best for Rovers Hawks.

Try Boys punished Sharks, 63-29, as twin sisters Katherine and Chantelle Brockett combined for 39 points.
