GBL Winter Championship Division 1 Wrap- Round 2

A STUNNING 40-point haul from Alex Duck has been the difference between Sharks and Pivot City in 2014 GBL Winter Championship Division 1 women’s action at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

The SEABL Lady Supercat was unstoppable as the defending champions remained unbeaten with an 89-61 win over Pivot City.

Fellow guard Georgia Varley was also impressive with 24 points.

Teenage big Lauren Moloney paced the scoring for Pivot with 22 points.

Try Boys caused the first upset of the season in beating Lara 62-59.

Kendyl Collins nailed six three-point attempts in her 21-point haul, while fellow Big V Lady Supercats Natasha Daffy finished with 16.

Abby Loughhead scored 20 points for the Giants, with talented tall Caitlin Shadbolt held to just 13 after scoring 37 in Round 1.

Big man Ash Cannan has fired Lara to its second consecutive win to start the Division 1 men’s competition.

The SEABL Supercat scored 24 points in another dominant inside performance as the Giants proved too good for Try Boys 85-63.

Cannan was well supported by Rob Harding (16 points) and Mikey Lesic (12 points).

Hunter Bourke top scored for the Bears with 15 points, while Mitch Norton had 14 and Steve Hyland 12.

Reigning champion Pivot City has outlasted Sharks 60-51 to claim its first win of the season.

Experienced duo Jason Reardon (21 points) and James Walker (15) were the best on the scoresheet for the Pivotonians.

Dane Bow carried over his good form from the Big V Supercats weekend win, knocking down five three-pointers, on his way to 20 points.

After having the bye in Round 1, Christian College made a winning start its season with a 61-53 victory over Vytis.

The contest was in the balance at three-quarter time, with the Eagles leading by just two points.

However, they outscored the Knights 20-14 to claim the three points, thanks to a 20-point effort from Jackson Bentley.

 

Romas Liebich (19 points) and Rhys Lloyd (14 points) led the way for Vytis.
