A new era in school holiday basketball for Geelong

Kylie & Molly

Basketball in Geelong has undergone unprecedented success in 2010 on a State and National level.

The 2010 season success of The St Laurence Geelong Supercats winning both their Conference and Championship titles along with Basketball Geelong’s State Championship Woman’s success has presented an opportunity to combine both these successful rosters for the development and skills camps associated with the Alcoa ARP Basketball Academy Camps held in the first week of the coming school holidays.

This combination will bring about a significant but ongoing change to the opportunity and experience children will have at these new camps.

Including an earlier commencement time each day of 9am running to 3pm daily at each location and specific coaching directors with set routines that manage the opportunities to engage children of all school ages.

The holiday clinics will incorporate Star WNBL and Lady Cats Championship player Kylie Morrissy and reigning Big V Youth League Coach of the Year - Dave Brown, plus Championship winning Supercats players.

To be held at the Torquay College Stadium on Monday Sept 20th and Tuesday 21st and returning to the Geelong Arena on the Wednesday to Friday (22nd -24th) for 3 days.

Children of all abilities will attend and each day will feature various skills and games to develop fundamental basketball skills.

Star WNBL and Geelong Basketball player Kylie Morrissy said the overall emphasis is on fun and getting kids enjoying playing basketball with a structured approach to the delivery of the camp.

“The Alcoa Basketball Academies are all about kids having fun and learning more about basketball. We aim to get kids excited about playing basketball and they can then go to school and into clubs and continue playing” Morrissy said.

Each day runs from 9:00am – 3pm and while the emphasis is on fun, the academy is building on the expertise of access to qualified coaching staff and commences a commitment on the part of Basketball Geelong working in conjunction with the St Laurence Geelong Supercats to develop local talent.

Registration to the Alcoa ARP Basketball Academy can be made by logging onto www.basketballgeelong.com.au or contacting the Supercats club on 5277 1711.
