GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Round 8

An impressive final quarter comeback from Vytis has been enough to earn an 81-all tie with Christian College in Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship action on Tuesday night.

The Knights, who trailed by 11 at three-quarter time, outscored the Eagles 36-25 to claim a share of the points.

Big V Supercat Steve Wiasak was instrumental in the comeback, finishing with 25 points, while teammate Marty Liebich scored 13.

SEABL Supercat Liam McInerney scored 21 points on debut for the Eagles, with young gun Taylor Dow pouring in 20 points.

Riley Herbert starred with 34 points in YMCA’s comfortable 96-41 win over Dolphins.

He had plenty of support, with four teammates scoring in double figures, including Lewie Varley who finished with 18 points.

American Anthony Kimble was best for Dolphins with 18 points before fouling out.

Pivot City maintained a share of top spot with an 88-54 victory over Try Boys.

Zac Moore’s solid form continued with a game-high 30 point haul, while Dusty Duggan had 22 and former NBL player Ash Cannan 21.

The Bears were best served by 13 points apiece from Steve Hyland and Chris Daniele.

Sharks had too many guns for Rovers in 105-46 win.

Jarryd Watene made an immediate impact with 30 points, while Big V teammate Dane Bow finished with 29.

Adam Coombes paced Dolphins with 15 points, while Jake Cameron had 12.

Meanwhile Sharks and Rovers have played out a high-scoring 70-all tie in GBL women’s action.

Alex Duck ensured Sharks remained unbeaten by hitting the shot that levelled the scores with six seconds left on the clock.

The star SEABL Lady Supercat finished with 33 points, while Maddy White had 18.

Five players scored in double figures for Rovers, led by Grace Parker (17 points) and Kylie Morrissy (15).

Pivot City maintained touch with the top four with a 58-52 win over Try Boys.

However they had to hold-off the fast finishing Bears to claim the a crucial three points.

Olivia Cameron was best for Pivot with 17 points, while Tash Daffy paced the Bears scoring with 20 points.

Dolphins remained in third position after a 61-53 result against YMCA.

Led by Cortney Williamson (25 points) and Ebony Rolph (18), Dolphins 16-4 first quarter would ultimately prove the difference.

Big V Lady Supercat Vicki King top scored for Y with 16 points, while youngster Alana Hocking finished with 14.
