Under 16 Boys Round 2

Geelong Cats 31 lost to Knox 69

Top Scorers: G. Blagojevic 9, R. Kennedy 4, A. Motiani 4

Coach’s Comment: “Playing at Knox against one of the premier teams in the state provided the Geelong boys with a challenge and opportunity to take it to a team that has great size and many ways to score. In the first quarter the boys did just that and if not for some missed chances we could have held a slender lead at quarter time. That however was not to be and for the remainder of the game the boys appeared to lose confidence while their opponents gained theirs. At half time Geelong was down 30-14 and that margin blew out to a 69-31 loss as the Knox offensive machine found too many gaps in our defence and more than doubled our rebounds on the night.”

Geelong Cats 31 def. Knox 30

Top Scorers: Z. McKeegan 15, Q. Murphy 6, E. Braslis 5

Coach’s Comment: “An extremely tight tussle throughout a highly physical game.  It was great to see persistence from all the girls to the end, to come away with the points.”

Geelong Cats 37 lost to Warrandyte 41

Coach’s Comment: “We went into this game on Friday night, after having split games with Warrandyte in the past.  We controlled the game for all but the final two minutes. Up by 10 at three-quarter time, a depleted list of only seven players, due to absence and illness, finally ran out of legs and we were not able to hold on.  Some confusing calls made down the stretch, and the failure to again value the possession of the ball, cost us dearly.  Special mention to Bronte Burke, who crawled out of her sick bed and played a monster of a game, and Mikaela Watson, who may be starting to show the potential that we have always known she has had.”

Under 12 Boys Round 2

Geelong Cats 39 def. Warrandyte 30

Top Scorers: H. Marshall 10, L. Hanley 7, C. Wilkinson 7

Coach’s Comment: “Some great offensive rebounding early got us off to a fast start against their zone. Our offence was good all night with the bigs getting great steals, the guards swinging the ball and attacking the holes we`d created. Defence was a little patchy again, but picked up in the crucial moments and we were able to close out the game brilliantly.”
