BG Division One Round-up

Christian College Eagles are poised to seal the important double chance in the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship.

Locked in battle with Try Boys Bears for second place behind YMCA, Christian College gained a decisive edge by beating its rivals, 60-58, at The Arena on Tuesday night.

In a game that went right to the final buzzer, Nick Owusu (21 points) and Brett Seljak (17 points) led Christian College in a season-defining win.

Try Boys Bears were led by veteran Paul Hutchison (20 points), but will still be a force in the playoffs despite the loss.

Pivot City consolidated in fourth place on the ladder with a 73-27 win over Sharks Runners as James Kingsbury (18 points) led the way in a crucial win.

But fifth-placed Sharks maintained the pressure with a 98-65 win over Rovers to make sure any slip by Pivot over the closing two games could be costly.

Rod Bousejean (21 points) and Dane Bow (17 points) pace Sharks, while Scott Dumbell (21 points) was good for Rovers.

Vytis clinched an epic win over YMCA Cougars, 57-56, but has left its run at the playoffs a little too late, while Try Boys took care of Dolphins, 61-16.

Rovers Hawks pulled off an upset in the BG Division One women’s championship, but it was too little too late.

Despite being out of the playoff race, the Rovers Hawks played one of their best games to beat third-placed Pivot City, 50-46, at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Ellie Stevens (22 points) paced Rovers Hawks with Emily Koroneos (10 points) while Olivia Cameron (16 points) was top scorer for Pivot City.

YMCA firmed as championship favourite with a big 63-36 win over Try Boys.

Y pair Candice Rogers (25 points) and Charmaine Ferguson (22 points) packed too many guns for Try Boys, who were led by Sarah De Grandi (12 points).

Rovers romped to a 76-38 win over Sharks as Tania Du Plessis (24 points), Lana Ryder-Kowalski (23 points) and Sherrie Noonan (22 points) shared the scoring.
