GBL Winter Championship Wrap May 14th

Sharks sit alone on top of the Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship women’s ladder after round 5 following a 73-65 win over Pivot City at the Arena on Tuesday night.

Star SEABL Lady Supercat Alex Duck led an even team performance with 20 points. Maddy White (16 points), Georgia Varley (13) and Jade Mitchell (12) also scored in double figures.

Youngster Jenae Marks paced Pivot’s scoring, shooting 17 points, while Olivia Cameron finished with 12.

Twin towers Abby Schrader (23 points) and Caitlin Shadbolt (22) proved the difference in Lara’s 68-53 victory over the winless YMCA.

Natalie Wallace was also crucial for the Giants, scoring 14 points.

Veteran guard Vicki King kept Y competitive with 15 points, while young big Alana Hocking had 14.

Dolphins moved back into the top four with a 54-40 result against Try Boys.

Tiarna Rolph was best for Dolphins with 15 points, while Kim Martin poured 14.

The Bears were best served by Angela Morris and Vanessa McFall, who both scored eight points.

Pivot City climbed to the top of the men’s Winter Championship ladder with a 58-46 win over Sharks.

SEABL Supercats captain Jamie Medved scored 11 points for the Pivotonians, as did Zac Moore and Matt McCormack. Jason Reardon made his first appearance of the season, scoring seven points.

Shooter Dane Bow scored 13 points, while Daniel Ferguson had 11 for Sharks.

A 25-10 third quarter proved the difference in Try Boys 90-71 win over Dolphins.

The Bears led by just two points at the main break, but blew Dolphins out of the water to start the second half.

Liam Meyrich starred for Try Boys with 20 points, while Chris Daniele and Steve Hyland had 19 each.

Ben McCawley’s impressive first month of the season continued with 35 points for Dolphins. Big V Supercats teammate Mikey Lesic had 23 points.

YMCA moved back into the top four with a 93-73 result against Christian College.

Big V Youth Championship duo Riley Herbert and Lewie Varley scored 19 points apiece for Y, while Emerson Varley had 18.

Talented teenager Taylor Dow dropped 30 points for the Eagles, who also got 20 from Jackson Bentley.
