Venom Cruise Past Eagles

The Warrandyte Venom Big V women are within sight of making this year's finals series after beating Craigieburn 71-57 in round 12 of division one action. Sitting fourth on the ladder, the Venom is aiming for a third successive finals series.

The win at Craigieburn was particularly pleasing for the coaching staff given that a number of players were missing due to illness and injury.

Leading from the outset, the Venom controlled the game throughout with Janelle Lucas (18 points), Jaz Borella (14 points), Mollie Burke (13 points) and Sharlene Dalsanto (17 rebounds) all playing well.

In a great team effort, the Venom withstood a vocal home crowd to secure their ninth win from 16 games.

"I was really happy with the win," said coach Justin Nelson.

"The girls stuck to the game plan and were rewarded with the win. We are very close to securing a finals berth which is a great result for such a young group. I'm very proud of their achievements thus far, but we still have a long way to go."
