McDonald's Thompson and Whelan Round Five Preview

After a two week hiatus, the McDonald’s Thompson and Whelan Trophy Competitions are back in full force tonight, with sixteen games tipping off around the region!

Cashmere High school is hosting a #McDsWT matchup between Hillmorton and St. Margaret’s at 5pm, before St. Bede’s has a second chance this year to win the Dowson Cup, from the 4-0 Cashmere Boys team at 7pm. Burnside High school has regular tip times of 5:15pm and 7pm for a #McDsWT rematch against Rangiora, in Tsubasa Nisbet’s first game of the year after a broken finger has sidleined her thus far (Burnside won the matchup the first time around, but needed a huge comeback to do so!), and a Thompson game against the Spartans from Shirley Boys’.

Lincoln hosts both teams from Ellesmere , and Kaiapoi has Christchurch Girls’ and then the Hornby boys coming to play. Middleton Grange is hosting a double header with slightly different start times: 6pm against the Cashmere Girls; and 7:30pm against Christchurch Boys’ High.

The Whelan competition has some one off games around the region at 5:15pm: The Avonside Lady Eagles host Villa Maria; and Ashburton hosts St. Andrew’s at the old Basketball Mid Canterbury Stadium (Oxford Street).

In the Thompson competition, Riccarton hosts their first game of the year (at 5:30pm) against Papanui. Cathedral hosts Hillmorton at 7pm, also at 7pm Linwood hosts St. Thomas, and Christ’s College have their first home game against Rangiora.

The St. Andrew’s vs Ashburton #McDsTT game has been deferred until Wednesday 14 June (7pm at StAC).
