2016 CBA Awards Night Recap

 

The 2016 Awards Night had each First Team member recognized (click here for a list of these players) with the following players named as the MVP for each grade:

Special awards went to the following:

Coach of the Year - Lori McDaniel. Guided the Canterbury Wildcats to a perfect WBC season, culminating in the 2016 Championship, as well as coaching the Halswell Women's Premier team to the final in the CBA competition.

Administrator of the Year - Faith Harrison. The Gators club has gone from strength to strength in terms of integration with local high schools, and Faith has been able to organise these teams, as well as running a Hoops Programme and junior basketball competitions.

Services to Basketball - Richard Kenny. Richard has gone above and beyond in terms of what would be expected from a member of the community. Richard can be found helping mentor young referees, as well as officiating in miniball and Y5/6 competitions, as well as refereeing multiple grades on both Saturdays and Sundays - not to mention being the first port of call for any defereed games that need a referee!

Club of the Year - Lincoln University. LU qualified four teams into the CBA club finals, with two of these teams going on to win, capping off an unbeaten season: the U23 Men, and Premier Women. In addition to this, the LU Men's team contested the USTNZ Basketball Championship against seven other universities ffrom New Zealand, prevaling in the final against Auckland University to be named New Zealand's best.

 

Referee Awards:

Most Improved Junior: Rani Hammond

Most Improved Senior: Seddon Smith

Junior Referee of the Year: Hamish Dale

Senior Referee of the Year (co-winners): Matt Bathurst and Marty Davison
