Spanish Coach Orenga to Hold Coaching Clinics

Spanish Olympic men’s assistant coach JUAN ORENGA is coming to New Zealand for clinics at Christchurch and Auckland next month.

Coach Orenga is regarded as one of the premier coaches in Europe, making a seamless transition from an elite player into the coaching ranks. A creative guard, Orenga represented Spain 128 times – including the 1992 Olympics – and played with distinction at a number of Spanish clubs, including powerhouses Estudiantes and Real Madrid.

As a coach, he has quickly forged a reputation as a master technician and teacher, guiding the Spanish U19 Men to European glory and leading his nation in the 2009 FIBA World Under 19 Championships in Auckland.

In 2012, Coach Orenga served as an assistant coach on the Spanish Senior Men’s team, which claimed the silver medal at the London Olympics and enhanced its reputation as one of the premier teams on the international scene. Orenga played a key role in the development of many of the players who competed in the Olympics and continues to play a key role in the areas of player development and talented identification in Spain.

FIBA Oceania and Basketball New Zealand will host Orenga in early December for clinics at Christchurch (December 1) and Auckland (December 2).
