BBNZ Secondary School Nationals - Preview

AA National Secondary School Basketball Championships Nelson Oct 1-6

Six Christchurch based Secondary School basketball teams head to Nelson on Sunday to compete for honours at the AA National Secondary School Championships but face stern opposition against the strong North Island teams.

There are 24 schoolboys and 24 schoolgirls teams in the main AA championships while 9 Boys and 8 girls teams contest the A section for smaller schools over the 6 day tournament which concludes on Saturday.

There are a total of 239 games over the six days.

The Burnside High team under coach Jo Hammond is seeded 16th in Pool one and meets 8th seed Fraser College in its first game on Monday afternoon.

Cashmere High is in Pool 3 and plays 6th seed Tauranga Boys High on Monday afternoon.

Aranui has a tough hurdle meeting 4th seed Hutt Valley in Pool 4 on Monday afternoon.

In the School Girls section

Ch Ch Girls High is 5th seed and meets St Mary’s Coll on Monday afternoon.

Rangiora High meets St Peters College and Waikato Diocesan on Monday while Cashmere High plays top seed New Plymouth Girls High plus Rotorua Girls on Monday.

Thursday is AA Quarter-Finals day, Semi-Finals are Friday with Play-offs and Grand Finals on Saturday.
