Wildcat Tessa Boagni Signs With Cal State Northridge

CSUN Women's Hoops Signs Caroline Gilling and Tessa Boagni to National Letters of Intent

The Cal State Northridge women's basketball program has added Caroline Gilling and Tessa Boagni to the roster for the upcoming 2014-15 season, Matador head coach Jason Flowers announced. A pair of international prospects, both Gilling and Boagni have had outstanding prep and international careers that will help them make the transition to NCAA Division I basketball.

Gilling originally hails from Denmark while Boagni is a native of New Zealand. Both have signed National Letters of Intent with the Matadors and will have four years of playing eligibility at CSUN.

"We are excited to add Caroline and Tessa to our basketball family. Both young ladies come from outstanding families and possess a strong work ethic and character that will help them excel on the court and in the classroom," CSUN head coach Jason Flowers said.

Boagni is a 6-2 center/forward originally from Christchurch, New Zealand. She helped lead her team to the NZ Secondary School Girls "AA" title and earned Most Valuable Player honors after finishing with 28 points and 17 rebounds in the championship victory. Boagni scored her team's first eight points and her MVP honors in hoops mirrored her MVP award in volleyball at the national schools volleyball tournament.

Basketball is something that runs deeply in her family's blood. Her mom was a former captain of the New Zealand women's national team. Her dad played at Kansas and Cal State Fullerton, was a draft pick of the Utah Jazz and played professionally in New Zealand.

Her siblings are equally adept at basketball. Her older sister played at SUNY-Buffalo and in top leagues in Germany and Australia. Her brother played at Brown and is a member of the Canterbury Rams in the New Zealand National Basketball League.

Boagni has also been a fixture on the New Zealand national team as well. She was a member of the New Zealand's 3-on-3 team that participated in the world championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was a member of the New Zealand U-16 team and was invited to the trials for the New Zealand National women's team.

"Tessa is a talented athlete who has competed at some of the highest levels in multiple sports," Flowers said. "She adds depth and size to our roster. Her pedigree speaks for itself and I fully expect her to challenge and compete for playing time right away."
