McDonald's Thompson Thompson and Whelan Round Eleven Preview

The McDonald’s Thompson Trophy is now officially in the plyoffs, with 16 teams across the two divisions in quarter-final matchups tonight. Our Whelan Trophy has its final regular season round before semi-finals next week.

Cashmere High School has the Ashburton College girls playing at 5:15pm, while the top seeded boys take on (8) Christchurch Boys’ High at 7pm. Christchurch Girls’ High hosts Burnside, then is the venue for (3) Christ’s College against (6) Middleton Grange. Middleton’s girls play the visiting Rangi Ruru, before kindly allowing their gym to be used by (1) Papanui against (8) Hornby in Division II of the #McDsTT. The St. Andrew’s girls host Kaiapoi, and the boys will then look to defend their home-court against St. Bede’s. Hillmorton’s girls host Lincoln, and their (2) boys look to book their ticket to the next round in DII, but will have to battle a rapidly improving (7) Ellesmere team.

In single Whelan action, Villa Maria will host St. Margaret’s at 4:30pm, while Ellesmere will travel to take on the Avonside Lady Eagles at 5:15pm, as the final Whelan Division II playoff spot will be decided tonight.

The Thompson Trophy competition also has some single games on too. At 5:15pm you can watch (4) Shirley hosting (5) Ashburton. 7pm is when all of the other games tip, with the higher seed hosting: (2) Burnside vs (7) Rangiora in DI; (4) Cathedral vs (5) Riccarton (DII); (3) St. Thomas vs (6) Kaiapoi (DII); and lastly Lincoln hosting Linwood (DII)
