Phil Burns Honoured

The NZ Home Loans Canterbury Wildcats Head Coach, Phil Burns was awarded the Basketball NZ Services to Womens Basketball award at the WBC finals dinner, following the conclusion to the 2014 Womens Basketball Championships.

Phil has put many hours of time over 38 years of coaching both womens and mens teams in Canterbury and was rewarded with the timely recognition for his many years of service.

This was his second stint as the Wildcats Head Coach and he announced he was retiring from this level during his speech. Phil will be still active in coaching of high school teams, his passion, with Christchurch Girls High and also with the Pioneer club.

Phil Burns has won numerous nationals titles including two hard fought wins in the Womens National League with a dominant Wildcats team in 2004 and 2005 and also secondary school nationals titles with Girls high. He has been responsible for the development of several many national age group players and Tall Ferns over the years as well.

Canterbury Basketball congratulates Phil on his award and we look forward to many more years of his coaching locally.
