Michael Karena Commits to Wright State

Michael Karena has just decided on where he will continue his college basketball career, after graduating from South Plains (JuCo). Wright State University has been interested in him from the beginning of his recruitment, and finally won the war today, with Karena deciding on the Raiders.

Michael grew up in North Canterbury, before deciding to head to Nelson College for his schooling. He has been a familiar site in the CBA club competitions here, and was slated to be playing for teh North Canterbury Men's Premier Team this season (if available). Wright State won out over the other suitors, as in Karena's words "I was reminded of home, and it really seemed like the best spot for me".

A recruiting commentator loves the pickup for Wright State:

"This is a nice pick up for Wright State.  Karena had interest from some high major schools, including Texas Tech.  He played for a very deep JUCO team; South Plains is one of the best programs in the country.  They regularly have several D1 prospects on the team.  Karena was behind a very talented group of frontcourt players as a freshman, and was slowed significantly by an ankle injury this past season.  He stats do not represent his skill level and athleticism.

Karena should do well in the Horizon League"

The Canterbury Basketball community is extremely proud of Michael's achievements, and wish him all the best in the next stage of his playing career. Follow Michael on twitter @MichaelKarena
