Girls' High Win Sec School Nationals

Christchurch Girls Unbeaten to win Nationals

October 5, 2013

Girls "AA" champions Christchurch Girls High School

Christchurch Girls High finished off the Sec school Girls Nationals in style by downing a star studded Ragitoto team in the final 65-46.  Christchurch Girls forward Tessa Boagni capped a remarkable sporting year, leading her team to a runaway win over Rangitoto to capture the NZ Secondary Schools Girls “AA” title at Palmerston North.
Boagni dominated her head-to-head match-up against Tall Fern rival Penina Davidson from the start to lay the foundations for the teams success and earned Most Valuable Player honours in the process.

Nine unanswered points to start the second quarter – forward Polly Hill had seven of them – stretched the lead out to double figures and by halftime, Christchurch were 38-23 up.

Boagni had not only dominated the match-up, but she had also found support from her team-mates, while Rangitoto’s performance seemed to stagnate. Ash Fane, Laken Wairau and Gabby Edmondson joined Boagni in the tournament team as a testiment to the many minutes they all logged.

Victory also earned TeHaere Stirlings team the distinction of being the only unbeaten team through the week-long tournament.

Boagni finished with 28 points/17 rebounds, while Hill had three three-pointers in her 14 points, and Gabriela Edmondson contributed eight points/13 rebounds and six assists.

Davidson battled hard for her 20 points/18 rebounds and Fotu had 15 points, but the pair shot 16/46 between them.
