Canterbury Players Representing NZ

Tessa Boagni is off to Indonesia for 3x3 Youth World Champs

All Canterbury Basketballers wish Tessa well and come back proud!

The crazy world of 3×3 basketball presents a steep learning curve for the New Zealand U18 girls – and their coach – as they step into the big international arena for the first time in Indonesia next week.
A late inclusion for the
FIBA 3×3 Youth World Championships at Jakarta, the young Kiwi women are still coming to grips with the fundamentals of a game that is essentially the same, but also very different to the five-on-five version they’ve grown up with.

“This group of girls is very smart and I’m quite pleasantly surprised how much they talk amongst themselves.” explains coach Tania Hunter.

This particular roster of Ella Fotu (North Harbour), Pareraukura Gilmartin-Kara (Waikato), Pene Bishop-Paenga (Porirua) and Tessa Boagni (Canterbury) has already experienced some success beyond NZ shores.

“In Sydney, we used Tessa inside a lot, but we won’t be able to do that at the worlds, because we won’t have the height against these other teams.

“Tessa is usually an inside player, so we’ve had to change her mindset and it’s nice to see her showing more consistency from outside as well.”

Laken and Shou are also off to Melbourne

2013 FIBA Oceania Qualifiers NZ U17 Teams in Knox

Laken Wairau (University Women) and Shou Nisbet (Burnside High) will shortly be winging their way to Melbourne where they will be representing New Zealand at the 2013 FIBA Oceania Qualifiers to be held in Knox (Melbourne), Australia, from September 26-28.

All games are played at State Basketball Centre, 292 George Street, Wantirna South, Victoria. The three match Oceania series starts this Thursday evening and wraps up on Saturday. All your FANS IN CANTERBURY BASKETBALL wish the two of you good luck, safe travel, play hard, play fair and comeback proud!
