Canterbury Basketball Association is thrilled to be involved in the new Sideline Champs Awards 2013, celebrating the best grassroots sports fans around New Zealand.

 

These awards are an exciting chance to engage, reward and recognise those parents, coaches, family and friends on the sidelines of courts this season, who have set exemplary models of sporting behaviour. Perhaps it is a dad who defused a tense situation; perhaps a mum who has gone out of her way to recognise the performance of all the kids on the court; perhaps an aunty who has set up a positive cheering squad.

 

The Herald on Sunday has established these awards in discussion with a number of sports including Basketball NZ. We are grateful for the support of the nation’s 109 McCafés, which have generously agreed to award a coffee and muffin to each of the 15,000 Sideline Champs winners around New Zealand!

 

Canterbury Basketball Association will have “spotters” out and about at a number of local Basketball games and events looking for exemplary supporters of grassroots sports:

 

1. Supporters who are positive in cheering grassroots games.

2. Supporters who put themselves on the line to deal constructively with the poor behaviour of others.

3. Supporters who go beyond the call of duty in boosting their team(s).

 

 

If you are a lucky recipient of a Sideline Champs certificate, we will forward your name onto the Herald on Sunday who will publish a weekly roll of honour in recognition of your contribution!
